Tibetan Volunteers for Animals (TVA) activists made a presence during the Jamyang Gunchoe at Sera Monastery Bylakuppe. TVA activists screened a video on the plight of animals to more than 3000 monks who had gathered to see the video.
The opening speech was given by Geshe Lobsang Chodhar, Disciplinary Head Sera Jhe Monastery who is a die hard vegetarian. Geshe lak urged the monks to give up meat for their health, dharma and animals.
Geshe Sonam Dawa lak also gave a speech on the plight of animals and stated the mission and ideology of TVA as an organization. Geshe Sonam Dawa Lak is on the 'Board of Directors' of TVA.
As a result of the Video screening, 32 monks signed a lifetime commitment not to eat meat.
Sera Monastery is one of the 3 prestigious monastic Universities of Tibet. Consumption or sale of any kind of meat in the premises of Sera Monastery is strictly prohibitted.
