September 7 , 2006 Central School for Tibetans, Mussoorie: Mussoorie - a hill station situated in the foothills of the Himalayan ranges in north Indian state of Uttaranchal. It is also known as the "Queen of the Hills" - a beautiful place, a god's masterpiece. Beauty knows no language, caste, race or species. But for beings other than humans, beauty seems to have no meaning in their lives. Especially those which are so much loved by humans, not when they are alive but when they are on their dinner plates.
In an effort to make a difference, Tibetan Volunteers for Animals (TVA) arrived Mussoorie. Documentary Videos on Cruelty to Animals were screened at the CST school. It was amazing to see the reflection of love and compassion in the eyes and hearts of these children who had never seen an animal being slaughtered before.
Students expressed their desire to work for the welfare of animals and hence a Veg Club was formed in the school which would carry out activities to educate and help others. The students decided to put up an application with the signatures of all the students, appealing the authorities to declare the school as Meat-free Zone.
An essay writing competition was also organized to raise awareness on Vegetarianism. Similar event was also organized at the Mussoorie Homes School. Selected essays will be published in the forth coming issue of TVA's official Magazine - Semchen.
TVA sold a few magazines at the school and the money thus generated were donated to the School Veg Club which would be used to treat wounded dogs in and around the school premises.
