March 25th, 2005 Gopalpur: After campaigning at Dharamsala, TVA members visited TCV School Gopalpur and organized a talk show with slide shows and videos on Animal abuses. Students touched by the talks, decided to ban meat in the school. They will be putting an application to the school authorities to ban meat in the school. Class X, Class XI and Class XII students formed a vegetarian club in the school which would organize activities dedicated to save animals, stop animal abuses and promote vegetarianism. The club, at present consist of 32 members.
Totally 87 Students signed a lifetime commitment not to eat meat. This is excluding many others who did not sign yet decided not to eat meat through out their life. Mr. Kalsang Phuntsok la (teacher) will manage the Veg Club and guide the members. TVA donated 40 copies of the documentary "Law of Nature" to the Veg Club.
Magazines were sold to the students at just Rs 5/- per copy and CDs for only Rs 20/- which is less than half the cost price of the CD. It sold like hotcakes. Almost all the students are from Tibet and they wanted to show the Video to their parents. Parents are supposed to be the best teacher and guide for a child but may be the time has come when a child will teach his parents some some ethical values.
