For every Tibetan, Losar – the Tibetan New Year is a day of celebration and gathering of family and friends. Parents would wait eagerly for their children who are far away, to come home and spend time with them during Losar. It’s a very special day for any Tibetan but for those who have been separated from their family or those who doesn’t have anyone to call their own; it’s a day that would remind them of their lost ones.

Like last year, the members of Tibetan Volunteers for Animals and Veg-Club of SOS School Bylakuppe decided to celebrate their Losar with the Old people at an old age home in Bylakuppe. A singing program was organized in the morning for entertainment. Unlike last year, this time the 'Chang-Khol' (a beverage made from Chang - Tibetan beer)
losar-guitar.jpgwas a bit strong due to which most of the Old people seemed to be on cloud 9 from the morning itself. Most were in a singing or dancing mood rather than being an audience.

A small white tent outside the main building provided enough shade for all to dance and make them forget all the worries and sad stories.

"It was such a great day and this would be one the most memorable day of my life." said Miss Norzin Wangmo, a nurse by profession at Bangalore.

A special Vegetarian meal was served for lunch and dinner. The speical Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner (which were ofcourse
vegetarian) were sponsored by Miss Yangchen Dolkar,
losar-gorshay.jpgan active member of TVA who is presently working in Bangalore and Mr. Lobsang Monlam, the Event Organizer and the Managing Director of TVA.

"I don't know if my voice is good enough but I sang because I wanted to see them happy." said Tenzin Tsering, a member of TCV School Veg-Club.

As the day passed by, it was yet another evening with the horizon painted with crimson color.
“The following days for those old people will be no different, sitting under trees chanting Mantras, looking through their silent windows at the passer-bys, the lonely tunes, their longing for love, family and companionship, their past glories & unheard stories; the faded memories & the lost smiles.  Of course, we cannot bring losar-granny.jpgback what they have lost but we can surely help bring a little comfort and joy in their lives. And with today’s Losar Celebration, I feel I have just done that” said Mr. Lobsang Monlam.
