Tibetan Volunteers for Animals commemorated the 2550th Anniversary of the Mahaparinirvana of Gautama Buddha with a Peace Rally for Animals in Dharamsala on June 11, 2006. The main aim of holding this peace rally on the Budh Purnina is to contribute to the world peace where the sensitivity of the Human to other forms of life is highlighted.

The Kalon Tripa Professor Samdhong Rinpoche was the chief guest, in his inaugural of the Peace Rally for Animals praised the working of the Tibetan Volunteer for Animals and said that the Vegetarianism is scientifically proven to be better sustenance than the meat and that it is increasing becoming popular in the West. Therefore, he says that being Buddhist, the Tibetan people especially the monks should convert to vegetarianism. He further says that in today's way of life the monk cannot At Lhakayri claim to have consumed Nam Sum Dag Pe Sha as unlike in the ancient periods the monks no longer lives on alms. Professor Rinpoche has also asked the people gathering there to support the activities of the Tibetan Volunteers for Animals.

lha-ke-ree.jpgSoon after the inaugural address, the Peace Rally started the march from the main cathedral of His Holiness the Dalai Lama towards the main street of the McLeod Ganj amidst the huge traffic of the Local and foreign tourist. There were around two hundred members in the March wearing a specially designed T-shirts.


The majority of the participants were the student from Suja Vegetarian Club of the TCV Suja, students from Gopalpur TCV School, Students from Upper TCV School and the nuns of Jamyang Choeling Nunnery. The marcher then took the roads from the Reception centers through to the Lhagyal Ri where they halted for an hour saying prayers for the world peace.

peace-rally002.jpgThey resume their March circumbulating the palace of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and then taking the Jogiwara roads to the Library, the Head quarter of the Tibetan Government-in-exile.

At the Library, they encircling the Stupa said the prayers once again. The Peace Rally for Animals successfully concluded at the office of the TEAM (Tesi Environment Awareness Movement), as it sponsored the luncheon for the Marchers. Tibetan volunteer for Animals is thankful to TEAM for lunch and Tibet Tours and Travel for sponsoring the water bottle.
